The village is located in a plain at the right of the Francolí river, shortly
before the confluence with the Glorieta river. In the term many varieties are
cultivated: in dry land territories: carob trees, vine and olive trees; in
irrigated land territories: orchards and fruit trees. The zones without
cultivating are small forests of pines, hills and woods.
All together causes an harmonic variety of shades and
textures of the landscape that emphasize on the bluish distant mountain ranges.
The town is flat and ordered, the houses follow the formation drawn into squares
of the streets and maintains the same heights, and all of this combining the
oldest façades with the new constructions. The old nucleus is on the church and
the castle shelter. The courtyards with gardens, trees and palms suggest us the
inside beauty of the constructions.
MONUMENTS AND PLACES OF
INTEREST
PARROCHIAL CHURCH OF SANT PERE - The
church is a building formed by a nave with lateral chapels. At the façane it
emphasizes the stone façade which follows the lines of the classic style with
baroque reminiscences. The background of the façane is made of stuccoes, very
extended in the region. The tower bell has a squared base, that becomes a tower
of eight equal sides. The construction belongs to the XVII century. The ancient
temple took advantage of some of the walls to erect and lay the foundations of
the present church.
CASAL DELS MARQUESOS DE VALLGORNERA - It
is the most outstanding building of the town. This great construction of square
floor was constructed with great walls. The adovellada main door crowned with
three coats of arms and the gothic large windows are the more singular
architectonic elements. The construction is in good state, but with
interferences and additions of later periods. This building, by its great
dimensions and its isolated construction inside the nucleus of the town, is
popularly called the Castell.
