VALLS    Valls, birthplace of the castells (human towers) and the Calçotada (grilled spring onion festival), shows us its monumental aspect in such gems as the archpriest church of Sant Joan the 14th Century Capella del Roser, as well as making us feel a part of its characteristic festivals, fairs, traditions and customs.

THE CALÇOTADA   The Calçotada is the most important gastronomic festival in the whole of Catalunya. More than just a meal, it's a great excuse for organising a get-together of family and friends around the braziers barbecuing the Calçots and the grills roasting lamb and Valls llonganissa (sausage). Not can we possibly fall to mention the Calçot sauce, in which the Calçots are dipped before being lowered into the mouth in the traditional fashion, without forgetting the customary pitet (bib) to catch any drips!.

C A S T E L L S  (human towers)

"CASTELLS"    Valls is the birthplace of human tower building ands boasts more than 200 years of tradition. Tare are three colles, one teams, in the comarca: the Vella dels Xiquets and the Joves dels Xiquets, both from Valls, and the Xiquets de la vila d'Alcover. There are two absolutely essential dates on the Valls human-tower-building agenda: Sant Joan, on June 24 th and Santa Úrsula on the third Sunday in October.

COOPERATIVE OF NULLES   Valls, Nulles, Alió, Bràfim, Vila-rodona, Aiguamúrcia, Santes Creus, el Pla de Santa Maria and Cabra del Camp all boast outstanding wine cooperatives, some of which were designed by the Modernist architect Cèsar Martinell.

THE GATEWAY TO THE CISTERCIAN ROUTE

MONASTERY OF SANTES CREUS   Vila-rodona, Aiguamúrcia, Santes Creus, el Pont d'Armentera, el Pla de Santa Maria, Figuerola del Camp and Cabra del Camp provide a gateway to the Cistercian Route from the Alt Camp comarca. The Monastery of Santes Creus is open to visitors wishing to view the monastic quarters, guided nowadays by audio-visual technique which transport us back to the cloistered life of bygone days.

THE GAIÀ CASTLES

VILA-RODONA CASTLE   The trans-comarcal Gaià Castles route encompasses a sequence of important territorial castles with one geographical link in common: the basin of the River Gaià. This river played an essential role in defining the frontier with the County of Barcelona. We recommend a visit to the castles found in the municipalities of Querol, el Pont d'Armentera, Aiguamúrcia, Vila-rodona, Rodonyà and Montferri.

BRUGENT, GLORIETA AND THE PRADES MOUNTAINS

LANDSCAPE OF MONT-RAL   The Prades mountains and the Brugent and Glorieta, rivers represent the most important natural reserve of the Alt Camp. The villages of Alcover, Mont-ral, Riba and Picamoixons all offer us a wide range of natural and cultural resources: churches, chapels, paper mills and houses of historical interest as well as water spots, escarpments and breathtakingly beautiful natural scenery which attract climbers and hikers from far and wide.

AROUND THE RIVER FRANCOLÍ

The Francolí breathes life into the municipalities of Vallmoll, Milà, Masó, El Rourell and Els Garidells, all hazelnut-producing villages, the hazelnut being a typical Alt Camp product and traditional ingredient of our local cuisine. As well as the pleasure of a peaceful stroll in the shade of the hazelnut trees, these villages also exude a charm which should not be overlooked.

THE CENTRAL PLAIN

PLAIN OF ALT CAMP   The villages of Alió, Puigpelat, Nulles, Vilabella and Bràfim make up the central plain of the Alt Camp. Their wineries and cooperatives make this an essential visit on any itinerary, where, apart from visiting their churches, you can sample the most delicious and typical of local products before filling up your baskets!.
